On-farm changes

Tara Chandler, from Yarrahapinni NSW near Nambucca Heads, has committed to adding cover crops to the final stages of her picking procedure. This change was driven by a shift in perspective gained through the RAMP program, where she learned to view disturbance as an opportunity to introduce diversity into her farming practices. By integrating cover crops, Tara aims to enhance soil health, improve biodiversity, and increase the resilience of her agricultural system.

Reduction of Herbicide Use

In addition to incorporating cover crops, Tara is moving further away from herbicide use. This decision stems from her deepened understanding of the role of soil carbon in maintaining soil health, rated at a 5, reflecting a high level of knowledge. Reducing herbicide use aligns with her commitment to sustainable farming practices and her goal of minimising chemical inputs to promote a healthier ecosystem. The RAMP program has reinforced the importance of natural soil management techniques in achieving long-term agricultural sustainability.
