On-farm changes
Kevin Phillips, from Culmaran Creek just outside of Casino, has made significant changes in his farming practices, notably adopting multi-species planting and rotational grazing. The decision to implement multi-species planting was influenced by the exposure gained through RAMP, which highlighted the benefits of diversifying plant species to improve soil health and ecosystem resilience. Similarly, the benefits of rotational grazing were emphasised during the RAMP course, leading Kevin to incorporate this practice to enhance pasture management and overall farm productivity.
Confidence making change
Kevin’s confidence in making changes towards regenerative agricultural practices and principles is moderate, rated at 4 out of 5. This level of confidence reflects a solid understanding of the practices and principles bolstered by the insights gained from the program. Despite this confidence, Kevin recognises the need for further support and engagement to implement and refine these regenerative practices fully.
Kevin found the presentation on “Your Vision & Financial Management” by Glen Chapman particularly beneficial. This session – which can be viewed on the RAMP webinar section of the website – provided valuable insights into aligning financial management with long-term agricultural goals, which is crucial for integrating regenerative practices effectively. The knowledge gained from this presentation has been instrumental in shaping Kevin’s approach to managing his farm’s financial and operational aspects.
Kevin also highlighted the importance of the mentor’s role, finding Gavin Tinning to be approachable and engaging. However, he expressed a desire for more involvement with the mentor and other program members. The group mentoring aspect of the RAMP was valuable, but Kevin felt that increased interaction could enhance the overall learning experience and provide more comprehensive support for implementing regenerative practices.
